Variable Phase Order?!

So I was listening to an older podcast today from Ludology about game structure and it got me thinking about playing with the core structure of a game during play, and how that could really be accomplished.

Imagine if you will a game with multiple phases, that at the start of the game are in a specific order, but during the game the order of the phases can shift. So, lets say we have a hand...

So much for the weekly challenge...

So, clearly I have not kept up with the weekly challenge idea. The last challenge in particular through me for a loop. I did come up with a few ideas about how to combine simultaneous action selection and a time track, but all in a very abstract kind of way. My basic concept that I kept coming back to was a time management game. But it was way more complex in scope than I wanted to work on so I...

Orccon post mortem

What I've been up to...

So I was at Orccon this last weekend. It was a good show for me. Lots of cool highlights. My newest release, Pew Pew! did fairly well. I did a fair amount of demoing for it and was even asked to sign a copy for one of the people who bought it at the show. Awesome feeling to have someone ask you to do that :0)
In less pleasing news, although I kind of new it was coming,...

Week 3... Delay

 Delays...

So, I'm already a few days late in posting this. (My goal is to post every Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning). And, I feel like I should explain what exactly is going on. The short version being, I bit off more than I can chew with this weeks project.
My plan going into this if a project took longer than the week I was giving myself was to just stop, make a progress post, and start the...

Weekly game challenge #2

First off... here's the link.

This week I made a card game. The game is tentatively called Art Trader, although I'm certain if I were spending more than a week on it that name would change. So what is Art Trader? Well, here's how it started. I made a d68 table with game mechanics on each space on the table. Then I rolled 3 times and picked two. My results; Trick Taking, Commodity Speculation, and...

Game a week challenge

So, I've decided to set myself a fairly ridiculous challenge. One I will likely fail at, but that is kind of the point. Fail early, fail often. I'm going to try to design a new board game every week. More than that, I'm going to try to get each game as close to publishable as I can in only one week. Wish me luck as I'm going to need it.
Of course the best way to announce something like this is to...

Pew! Pew!

My "latest game" is in the final stages of development at Victory Point Games. I say "latest game" in quotes because technically I released the game a while ago as a print and play game. But, with the VPG treatment there has come a graphic overhaul and a few minor mechanical changes. All in all its become a solid little game. Not sure when exactly it will officially launch but you can check it out...

Not really sure how I should start this...

I've been meaning to start this for a while now. Seems like a good way to build awareness of what I'm doing, get feedback, etc. but it feels a bit awkward to start. Hopefully I'll find my voice in the coming weeks.

For now, if you happen across this blog before I add any real content, I suppose I should at least give you some idea of what type of blogging you can expect.

I'm a tabletop game...
