Draftcar Box Art

So... Art :0) Not much more to say than that. Had some free time and figured I should just get this done. Any thoughts, etc. Let me know.

Roll and Rondel

I've been a bit enamored by rondels lately. There is something very elegant about the whole concept. So, of course, I've come up with a few ideas centered around them. Today, I'm going to discuss an idea I had for a dice placement variant. So, very loosely, the mechanism works as follows:
  1. Roll a number of dice (determined by number of rondels in the game)
  2. Assign those dice to the rondels (you may...

Seeking Playtesters - Draftcar

Draftcar is a racing game for 2 to 10 players in which you draft cards to manipulate the way the cars draft with each other so that you can hopefully end up in the first place position at the end of the game.

Think Nascar, but without the sponsors covering every possible surface. You can get a rough idea of the gameplay in this video.

Playtesters will need to be able to produce a Print and Play kit....

Surrounded, with a Shotgun - Playtesting report

This week VPG put the playtest call out for Surrounded with a Shotgun. I've decided to experiment with digital playtesting and so far it has been a huge success.

Previously when I've done play testing, I've sent out physical kits. These kits take time and money to produce, so there is always an imposed cap on the number of testers. Then they have to be mailed to the tester, which takes time. When...

Chosin next steps

I've read a few posts / comments online about potential other settings that could use my Chosin Few engine. The posts I've seen so far have all been regarding individual battles. And they certainly sound interesting so I hope some of the people talking about them pursue them. But I can't help but wonder if there is a good way to expand it to encompass a whole war.

It would require a couple key...

Developing your own games...

If at all possible you should not develop your own game. Specifically, because a good developer needs to be able to make choices that will be difficult for a loving "parent". When the baby is ugly and needs reconstructive surgery it is not easy to cut away at something you love. With a bit of distance, it is a lot easier to make changes.

So, if you have access to a good developer take advantage....

Commandment: the words of gods

So I recently discovered a game on steam called Crest. Crest is a "god game" of sorts but what is interesting about it is that you don't directly affect the world. You can only interact with the people indirectly by issuing commandments.

These commandments follow a structural pattern of <type of follower> <action> <target>. For example if you want the well fed followers to distribute food you would...

Business thoughts part 2...

In my last business thoughts post I more or less came to the conclusion that in order to kickstart my game Draftcar I would need to raise $5000 before shipping.

And I hadn't decided whether I should charge for shipping during the kickstarter or later when the games were actually shipping. I think I've more or less settled on charging for shipping after the kickstarter but give my best estimates for...

Surrounded with a Shotgun

The above is the prototype for Surrounded with a Shotgun. It's a State of Siege game I'm working on for Victory Point Games. It's 1 to 4 players and uses a different map for each player count. The above picture shows a 3 player game.

The theme is still fairly loose, but think john carpenter's assault on precinct 13. The players are trapped in a building that is being besieged on all sides.

The...
